Since 2004
Home, is the harbour where we go to anchor our bodies and hearts.
Home, is where every individual wafting thought weaves into a whole.
This homestay is the epitome of the timeless picture of home we all carry in our hearts.

The owners
The whole family are nature lovers. They created a retreat within the narrow alleys meandering from Wulai’s Swallow Lake in order to hide from the heavy traffic of Taipei City. From there, they further retreated to Taiwan’s back garden, the Huadong Valley, to the side of the Central Mountain Range that neighbours Yuli Township. For the purpose of being together with the birds in the mountains, to scatter one’s worries upon the waves of golden and emerald paddies, to see the azure sky reflected in the shine of the babbling brooks, to listen attentively to the cacophony of frogs croaking at the start of spring… What they were searching for was a utopia described in the works of Tao Yuanming (Jin dynasty poet), a utopia of no quarrels and no worries that our hearts repeatedly call out for and desire.

Our values
Having studied the pages of classic texts countless times, pored through the poetic essays of people from ancient times, listened to the teachings of enlightened beings passing through, we finally understood our true desires. We had the sudden realisation that the mental and physical capability that we had been searching for all along was simply to have lasting peace in our hearts. To be at one with the vast mountains and boundless oceans and akin to an unconstrained fountain of knowledge… We can find a feeling of home in every manifestation of nature. Home is no longer a limiting structure, home is the integral whole of mind, body and the environment. What we finally realised was that the unfenced home in one’s inner heart is invaluable.
In front of the mountainside abode, day in day out, the sun rises out of the Coastal Mountain Range. Day in day out, the mountains are evergreen, with the mountain mist floating and wafting gracefully. Each day, the gushing stream by the side of the house babbles and gurgles. Each day, the emerald green and golden yellow paddies on Highway Nine sway back and forth in the wind. Most importantly, we have learnt to appreciate the ebb and flow of guests coming and going, to appreciate the precious and wonderful hearts and souls of the people we meet.
Home is where the heart is. It’s a sacred mountain, it’s the root of where the exquisiteness of the mind and heart are revealed. Our homestay is our manifestation of a beautiful home away from home.
