Hiking trails

The homestay sits snug on the Central Mountain Range and overlooks the Coastal Mountain Range, with the nearby Yushan National Park a treasure trove of abundant nature and history. The famous Walami Trail is the eastern portion of the Batongguan Historical Trail built during the Japanese colonial era, suitable for all ages and well worth a visit. In addition, the Antong Historical Trail near Antong Hot Springs not only gives you an insight to the historical and cultural significance of the trail, but on this trail you can also get your fill of both mountain and ocean views in one trip. It’s one of the trails that are not to be missed when you visit Yuli.

Suangan Creek Forest Trail

Distance: 4km / Estimated duration: 1-2 hours

Down a private path and up a small hill next to the homestay, you can embark on a trail through primitive woodland. Even though the elevation isn’t very high, during the hike you can see beautiful views of the Huadong Valley. The first 100m of the hike is steep and slippery, and soon after it flattens out and is easy to walk on, with the path looping around to Dayu neighbourhood. You can make an appointment with the furry friends of the homestay, Niu Niu and Taro, to lead you on your way!

Walami Trail

Walami Trail is the eastern portion of the Batongguan Historic Trail. It was a path forged during the period of Japanese colonial rule to connect the eastern part of Taiwan to the west, ending at Dongpu in Nantou County. It is said that the word ‘Walami’ originates from the Bunun word ‘Maravi’, meaning fern. These ferns are found growing luxuriantly along the paths and throughout the trail, hence during the period of Japanese rule, ‘Walami’ became the name of the trail.

Antong Traversing Trail

This ancient road has a natural and primitive ecological environment. The wooden boardwalk slowly climbs among the verdant forests and it is a leisurely and comfortable hike. The clouds and mists in the mountains waft around you, like a paradise in a dream. In the pavilion, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Huadong Valley and when it is sunny and cloudless, you can see Yushan. The viewing platform allows you stunning panoramic views; the blues of the sea and the sky over the Pacific Ocean merging into one is breathtaking.
